Toddler Dies, 12 Others Injured When Car Plows Into Portillo's: Oswego Police
A 2-year-old boy died after a car crashed through the front entrance of Portillo's, Oswego police confirmed.

OSWEGO, IL — A 2-year-old boy died after a car plowed through Portillo's entrance Wednesday, Oswego police confirmed. Twelve others were injured.
Eight people, including the driver, were hospitalized, and five were treated at the restaurant, located at 2810 Route 34, and released following the crash that occurred just before 2 p.m.
"We understand how difficult and emotional this incident is for everyone involved, to include the families impacted by this tragedy, as well as our community, our officers and the fire department personnel who responded," Chief Jason Bastin said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Based on the preliminary investigation, investigators believe the crash to be "a tragic accident," Bastin said.
"However, we are thoroughly reviewing all available evidence, including witness statements and surveillance video, to determine exactly what occurred," Bastin wrote in a statement.

"Support services are being made available, and we are coordinating closely with victim assistance resources," police said.
Officials said they will share additional information once more details are confirmed.
The restaurant was temporarily closed Wednesday following the crash, and Portillo's issued a statement saying the company is "deeply saddened" by the tragedy, according to NBC Chicago. It continued, "As we continue to assess this unfolding situation, our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our guests and team members. We are grateful to the emergency responders who arrived quickly onsite, and we are working closely with local authorities to aid their investigation."
