Cause Of Fire Near Downtown Oswego Home 'Appears To Be Accidental': FD

No injuries were reported in the fire that broke out at a house on East Washington Street, firefighters said.

OSWEGO, IL — A house just off downtown Oswego was destroyed in an early morning fire Friday, according to the Oswego Fire Protection District.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:27 a.m. to the 0-100 block of East Washington Street. The caller said they believed the fire started on the outside of the house and was spreading inside, officials said. The first crews to arrive found flames showing from the back of the two-story house. Crews remained on the scene as of 5:50 a.m.

Crews stretched one hose line to the rear of the house and another through the front door to extinguish the fire that had extended to the attic. Crews remained on the scene as of 5:50 a.m. to ensure the blaze didn't spread and was completely extinguished, according to a news release.

"The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature," officials said.

No injuries were reported. The house was deemed uninhabitable due to the damage it sustained, officials said. The department could not provide an estimated dollar loss.

Crews from the Plainfield and Bristol Kendall fire departments helped Oswego firefighters on the scene. Bristol Kendall and Sugar Grove staff provided station coverage.
