'Closed Door Policy' In Effect: Oswego Fire Department
The Oswego Fire Department announced Monday that contact with the public will be limited to emergencies only for the foreseeable future.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Fire Protection announced Monday that in response to the COVID-19 crisis, it would be instituting a 'closed door' policy until future notice. This means that contact with the public will be limited to emergency situations only, and that fire stations will no longer host their typical public events.
"The buildings are not open to the public," Oswego Assistant Fire Chief John Cornish said. "Typically we have a lot of station tours or people that come in to utilize the training room, neighborhood watch meetings and things of that nature... All of those gathering-type events are cancelled until further notice."
Despite closing the stations to the public, Cornish said that firefighters will continue their normal work and training schedules, and that the district's emergency operations will likewise carry on as usual.

"Any of the normal operational things that we would normally do in the course of the day... there will be no changes to that at this time," Cornish said.
Cornish also said that officials in the district will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and update their protocols, including firefighters' working hours, as needed.

"As things change, then our operational needs may require us to change [protocol] at some point, but for now everything is remaining the same," he said.
