Douglas Road In Oswego To Temporarily Close For Funeral Procession

The road closure will "ensure the safety and solemnity" for retired Oswego firefighter Roberto Flores's funeral service and procession.

OSWEGO, IL — A section of Douglas Road will temporarily close Friday to accommodate a funeral service and procession, according to police.

The services will honor retired Oswego firefighter and paramedic Roberto Flores, who died July 26 from occupational cancer, Patch reported.

Douglas Road will be closed to through traffic between Route 34 and Wolf Road from about 3:30-8:30 p.m. Friday to "ensure the safety and solemnity of the event," the Oswego Fire Protection District said.

All businesses in the Gerry Centennial Plaza and Oswego Commons shopping centers will remain open and accessible, though traffic patterns may be adjusted, police said. Drivers are encouraged to use Route 34 entrances and exits for the shopping centers to avoid congestion and delays.

"We thank the public for their patience and understanding as our community comes together to honor Firefighter/Paramedic Roberto Flores' dedicated service," Oswego Police Chief Jason Bastin said in a statement.

Visitation for Flores is planned from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Family Funeral Home, 1801 S. Douglas Road. The Oswego, Montgomery and Countryside, and Wheaton fire departments will conduct a walkthrough outside the funeral home beginning at 7:30 p.m.

A burial is planned at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass in Oswego.
