How Kendall County Voted In 2024 Presidential Election

The margin between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris was less than one percentage point in Kendall County.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Although the United States elected former President Donald Trump as its 47th president, Kendall County sided with Vice President Kamala Harris, though the margin was less than 1 percent, according to unofficial tallies from the Kendall County Clerk's Office.

In Kendall County, 72.19 percent of registered voters — 66,467 ballots were cast out of a total of 92,076 registered voters — turned out for the historic election between Trump and Harris.

The presidential election was a tight one. With all 78 precincts reporting, 49.48 percent of people, or 32,762 votes, cast their ballot for Harris and running mate Tim Walz, while 48.12 percent, or 31,862 votes, went to Trump and running mate J.D. Vance, according to the unofficial results.

Some voters chose to go the independent route, with 1,012 people, or 1.53 percent, voting for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and running mate Nicole Shanahan. Write-in candidates were even less prevalent, receiving 575 votes, or 0.87 percent.

The margin between the two candidates in Kendall County was much slimmer this year compared to the 2020 election. Four years ago, local voters backed President Joe Biden by 51.66 percent, or 33,168 votes, versus Trump's 45.93 percent, or 29,492 votes. With 87 precincts in 2020, 64,552 ballots were cast from a total of 84,165 registered voters, making for a 76.7 percent turnout, the clerk's office reported.

When it came to Illinois's advisory questions, Kendall County voters were in favor of all three propositions.

In the first, seeking voter opinion on whether candidates who attempt to interfere with the duties of election workers should face civil penalties, 87.89 percent, or 56,225 votes, said yes, while 12.11 percent, or 7,745 votes, said no. In the second, about a potential constitutional amendment that would raise taxes on income over $1 million and use the proceeds for property tax relief, the margins were smaller, but 59.91 percent, or 38,274 votes, were for it, and 40.09 percent, or 25,607 votes, were against. In the third, asking voters if health insurance plans should be required to cover in vitro fertilization as part of pregnancy benefits, 71.44 percent of the county, or 45,523 voters, were in favor, and 28.56 percent, or 18,203 votes, were opposed, unofficial tallies showed.

In other races, voters teered between blue and red. Here's a look at the results:

14th District representative in Congress:

  • James Marter (Republican): 31,314 votes, or 47.99 percent
  • Lauren Underwood (Democrat): 33,874, or 51.91 percent

49th District, State Senator

  • Katie Deane-Schlottman (Republican): 3,190 votes, or 45.86 percent
  • Meg Loughran Cappel (Democrat): 3,766 votes, or 54.14 percent

75th District, Illinois House

  • Jed Davis (Republican): 18,543, or 58.99 percent
  • Heidi Henry (Democrat): 12,890 votes, or 41.01 percent

83rd District, Illinois House

  • Matt Hanson (Democrat, unopposed): 11,513 votes, or 100 percent

84th District, Illinois House

  • Stephanie A. Kifowit (Democrat, unopposed): 8,784 votes, or 100 percent

97th District, Illinois House

  • Gabby Shanahan (Republican): 3,225 votes, or 46.3 percent
  • Harry Benton (Democrat): 3,740 votes, or 53.7 percent

Kendall County Circuit Court

  • Matthew G. Prochaska (Republican): 31,023 votes, or 48.29 percent
  • Tiara McCullough (Democrat): 26,444 votes, or 41.16 percent
  • Robert Allen (Kendall County Party): 6,777 votes, or 10.55 percent

Kendall County State's Attorney

  • Eric C. Weis (Republican): 36,247, or 56.13 percent
  • Jose Arnold Villagrana (DEM): 28,328, or 43.87 percent

Kendall County Coroner

  • Jacquie Purcell (Republican, unopposed): 54,154 votes, or 100 percent
