Italian Restaurant, Pizzeria Will Close After 45 Years In Oswego

The owners are retiring 45 years after the business first opened its doors in Oswego.

OSWEGO, IL — Danelli's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria will lock its doors for the last time Dec. 29 after 45 years of business, owners announced.

Self-dubbed "Oswego's hidden gem," the eatery has lived at 228 E. Washington St. since 1985 after first opening near the Fox River in Oswego. Owners John and Chris Daniels are retiring, according to a report from Shaw Local.

In an announcement on Facebook, the Daniels said "it is with heavy hearts" that they announce their restaurant's closure.

"We want to thank you all for all the wonderful years and beautiful friendships we have formed over the past 45 years," the owners wrote in an announcement on Facebook. "The laughter and all the memories we will cherish. You were all an integral part of our journey and your overwhelming support meant the world to us."

The post received more than 1,000 reactions and 250 comments, with locals praising Danelli's food and sharing well wishes for the retiring owners.

"A true Iconic Oswego place! You will be missed," one commenter wrote.

"You will be missed," another said. "Enjoy your upcoming years. Thanks for all the good food you served."

"Danelli's has always been one of my favorite place's to eat at ever since my grandma Sherry worked there years ago," one person wrote. "You guys have always been so amazing to the Robinson family and the restaurant will truly be missed. I have so many memories being there. Thank you guys for all the amazing food and your generosity over the years. I wish you all the best on your retirement."

"Congratulations on your retirement," someone else wrote. "Danelli's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant was our official "Happy Place" while we were in Oswego. It was wonderful getting to know you, the family and everyone else that worked there. The restaurant was small in size but your amazing food was cooked with love beating the competition for miles around."

"Congratulations, many of our first here since we moved to oswego 13 yrs ago were celebrated at your restaurant," someone said. "Closing of our house, births of our kids, new cars, anniversaries and more. We will [truly] miss you delicious food and great smiles and service every time we visited."
