"Most people with COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at home without medical care. Do not leave your home, except to get medical care. Do not visit public areas," the health department said.

Last week, Kendall County has set a new single-day record for number of coronavirus cases reported. According to county data, there were 269 new cases on Thursday.

RaeAnn VanGundy, health department executive director, told Patch that the increase in community transmission of the virus is overwhelming local health officials who are involved in contact tracing. They are struggling to notify residents and their possible contacts within 24 hours.

"Our cases are outnumbering our staff right now," VanGundy said.
