Kendall County Seeking Volunteer Sheriff's Deputies

OSWEGO, IL — The Kendall County Sheriff's Auxiliary Deputy Unit is looking for volunteer sheriff's deputies, according to the department. Auxiliary deputies generally volunteer about six hours a month and help the department in a wide array of duties.

The auxiliary unit provides aid at special events, helps direct traffic, assist in disaster recovery, helps in evidence or person searches and provide support to other deputies performing their regular duties. Volunteers are asked to have professionalism and a "strong sense of community service," according to the department.

Volunteers must also be at least 21 years old and will have to complete an application process, including an interview and background investigation. Accepted volunteers maintain an average of six hours of service a month.

Other qualifications for the volunteer position include:

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalento
  • Must not be convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitudeo
  • Must be of good moral charactero
  • Must be in reasonably good physical condition
  • Must be a resident of Kendall County
