We would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time to come out and help us make the Oswegoland Earth Day Kite Fly and Green Expo a huge success!
Dave Margolis had a team of around 100 volunteers helping him with his Conservation work morning. They cleared invasive garlic mustard plants and replaced them with bare root prairie plants and seeds in Cook’s Savanna.
Clint Meyer worked with around 35 volunteers to help build raised beds for the food pantry garden at the Oswegoland Park District’s Prairie Point facility. All of the vegetables grown in this garden are donated to the Kendall County Food Pantry.

The weather was just blustery enough to keep our kites soaring across the sky! Visitors to the Kite Fly and Green Expo were able to participate in a number of exciting activities provided by some fabulous local organizations. They were able to plant vegetable seeds with Madeline Cumby, a local youth advisory board member for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, that will be planted in a community garden to feed the hungry.
Many people enjoyed decorating containers to store used batteries, planting sunflower seeds and playing recycling games with the Oswego Transportation Association. The Kendall Education Connection was on hand to help children plan herbs to take home to their own gardens.

Everyone wanted a chance to roll the giant dice and play the living board game provided by The Kendall County Forest Preserve District. The Character Counts! Coalition helped to compile a list of ways that we can all show good character to the Earth.
Visitors to the tents could buy native plants and help paint rain barrels with the As We Grow Preschool that were raffled off to three lucky winners: Sue M., Lindsay W., & Cindy E. Kite enthusiasts were also able to make their own sled kites to send flying into the air.
Many thanks to the groups and volunteers who helped us bring this Earth Day event to life! You helped to show that it is easy being green. We hope that everyone had as much fun as we did, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
