Little White School Museum Temporarily Closed Amid Pandemic

Oswegoland Park District Executive Director Rich Zielke said the district will examine the conditions on Dec.6 to determine reopening.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego’s Little White School Museum temporarily closed its doors starting Wednesday due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Tier 3 mitigations on the entire state.

Oswegoland Park District Executive Director Rich Zielke said the district will reexamine the district’s facilities—including the museum—on Dec. 6 to determine when they might reopen.

The museum was previously closed from mid-March through early July due to previous pandemic mitigation orders. The museum reopened to visitors in early August during limited hours. Two weeks ago, the museum announced it would be open by reservation only.

"We plan to keep the museum website up to date," museum manager Tina Heidrich said. "The website has a wealth of Oswego-related historical information including videos and virtual tours of the museum gallery as well as the gallery’s Oswego history videos, and videos of the 'ghosts' from this year’s 'Cemetery Stories' virtual cemetery walk."

Museum director Roger Matile said the museum would still try to help those with Oswego history questions and research queries by email.

"We're going to continue monitoring the museum’s email to help out as many people as we can with their historical questions," he said.

The museum, located at 72 Polk Street in Oswego, is a joint project of the Oswegoland Heritage Association and the Oswegoland Park District.
