Meijer Employee Shows Penis, Then Tries Touching 11-Year-Old Girl: Cops

Police have arrested an Oswego grocery store employee who allegedly exposed himself to a mother and daughter.

Police arrested a 50-year-old Oswego man this week after a months-long investigation allegedly revealed that he showed his penis to an 11-year-old girl who was shopping with her mother in a local grocery store.

A Kendall County judge issued a warrant Wednesday for the arrest of Matthew J. Barkley, of the 4600 block of McLaren Drive, according to the Oswego Police Department.

Barkley faces one count each of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse, felony attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and misdemeanor public indecency.

Police say charges stem from a June 3 incident at Meijer, 2700 Route 34 in Oswego, in which Barkley, an employee at the store, approached a 49-year-old woman who was shopping with her 11-year-old daughter and "exposed himself." He then tried to touch the daughter, police said.

The victim reported the incident to police a few days later, launching a collaborative investigation among police in Naperville, Oswego and Aurora, as well as the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office.

"Oswego detectives were able to conduct an interview with Barkley at the Will County Jail, where he was in custody on unrelated charges," police said, noting that the arrest warrant was approved thereafter.

Barkley remained in custody Thursday evening at the Will County Jail. His bail was set at $100,000, meaning he would need to post 10 percent of that value, or $10,000, in order to be released.
