New Grocery Store OK'd In Oswego — But Name Of Store Still A Mystery
Oswego trustees approved Benderson Development's application to build a grocery store, restaurant and bank on 5 acres of undeveloped land.

OSWEGO, IL — A new grocery store is coming to Oswego, although which one remains a surprise.
Oswego trustees unanimously voted Tuesday to approve a final planned unit development for a two-building commercial development on 5 acres of undeveloped land at the corner of Route 34 and Kendall Point Drive.
The applicant, Benderson Development, LLC, proposed to build a grocery store that would sit on 12,500 square feet of space on the northeast corner of the site, while the 10,000 square foot "proposed retail/restaurant" would be on the western side. The space may be used for a restaurant, spanning 6,667 square feet, and a bank, of 3,333 square feet, according to a memo submitted to the Village Board by Assistant Development Services Director Rachel Riemenschneider.

Benderson Development did not name any users in its applications. Trustees said at the meeting that they did not know which businesses would move in, and Assistant Village Administrator Jean Bueche confirmed to Patch on Feb. 14 that the village didn't know more.

Patch contacted Benderson Development and will update this article if and when they respond.
The developer has often been linked to constructing Trader Joe's, according to a report from WSPY News. The Florida-based real estate company also works with Walgreens and local chains such as Publix and Fred Meyer, its portfolio shows.
When Patch spoke to a Trader Joe's representative on Valentine's Day, the company said it did not have "a location confirmed in Oswego."
