Oswego Coronavirus Update: If You're Sick, Don't Recycle
The village of Oswego and its sanitation provider, Groot Waste Management, have announced changes to the local recycling program.

OSWEGO, IL — If you or anyone in your household is feeling sick, throw your recyclables in the trash. That's the new mandate from the village of Oswego and its sanitation provider, Groot Waste Management. The order comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Kendall County continues to grow, and is meant to try and prevent unintentional spread of the virus via recyclable materials.
"If anybody in your home is showing symptoms of COVID-19, including a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing, do not throw your recyclable waste in the recycling bin," an announcement from Groot said. "Bag your recyclables and throw them in the regular trash. This is to reduce the possibility of spreading illness to workers who hand-sort recyclables."
According to the World Health Organization, coronavirus can survive on inorganic surfaces for anywhere from several hours to several days.
