Oswego Fire, Police Departments Hosting Open House Saturday

Local kids will be able to try on fire gear, get fingerprinted and win a ride to school in a fire engine.

OSWEGO, IL — As part of fire prevention month, the Oswego Fire Protection District will host its open house on Saturday. The community can meet their first responders and get safety tips, while kids will be able to play in a host of activities, including climbing on fire trucks.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Station One, 3511 Woolley Rd. For the first time, the Police Department will also be open to the public.

At the event, residents will be able to meet first responders, learn about fire prevention, see a live fire demonstration and a drone demonstration. Kids activities will include a fire engine to climb on, firefighter gear to try on and an obstacle course to run through. At the Police Department, kids will be able to go inside a jail cell and get finger printed.

The event's most popular feature will be returning this year, with a raffle for one local student to be driven to school in a fire engine. Pumper the Fire Pup, a firehouse mascot, will also be on hand.
