OSWEGO, IL — The village of Oswego's free fall cleanup will take place next week, allowing residents the opportunity to throw away oversized items and yard waste. The next opportunity to have oversized items collected curbside for free won't come until the spring.

From Monday, Nov. 4 through Friday, Nov. 8, the village's contracted waste collector, Groot Industries, will collect bulk items, extra trash and other seasonal garbage like yard waste. The fall clean-up collection will happen on residents' regularly scheduled garbage collection days.

Groot will pick up the bulk items and yard waste for free and without requiring a sticker. The items must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on a resident's garbage day. Yard Waste, however, must be collected in 30-galloon paper yard waste bags, according to the village. Yard Waste will not be accepted in plastic bags.

Groot defines bulk items as large household items in which one person can lift, according to the village's website. Those can include sofas, dressers, tables, mattresses and chairs.

Items that won't be accepted include: hazardous waste, appliances and electronics like televisions. For more information on how to recycle those items, check out the village's recycling and waste removal information page here.
