Oswego Free Leaf Collection Begins Next Week
Leaf collection begins Monday and will run through early December.

OSWEGO, IL — The Village of Oswego's free leaf collection program will begin next week, and likely will last until early December. Leaf collections run on a schedule based on three different zones in the village.
Leaf collection will begin on Monday, Oct. 12 and will likely through the first week of December, or until major snowfall prohibits collection, according to the village. Collections will start on Monday in Zone A and Zone B, with Zone C seeing collection begin on Monday, Oct. 21.
Here is the breakdown of the zones that determine leaf collection schedules:

- Zone A: Weeks of October 14, October 28, and November 18
- Zone B: Weeks of October 14, November 4, and November 25
- Zone C: Weeks of October 21, November 11, and December 2
As stated above, leaves must be piled neatly in the parkway, or the strip of land right next to the curb. The village will not pick up brush, grass clippings, tree limbs, vines or trash. Leaves obstructed by a parked car or other object will be skipped and picked up on the next collection. (The above image shows proper leaf piling, according to the village.)
If a collection period is missed, leaves may be bagged, stickered and collected as part of the village's yard waste program. That service will be offered through Nov. 29, according to the village.

Leaves don't have to be collected by the village, however. Leaves make for great insulation and fertilization for lawns and gardens. Backyard composting is also allowed in the village.
