Oswego High School Mourns Death of Assistant Principal

OHS Principal Mike Wayne reported that the assistant principal, Bill Nunamaker, passed away on Friday Jan. 10.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego High School Assistant Principal Bill Nunamaker has died. Principal Mike Wayne announced his colleague's death to the public via Facebook on Sunday evening, Jan. 12. Nunamaker reportedly passed away Friday, Jan. 10 from brain cancer, after struggling with the disease for most of last year.

"Mr. Nunamaker joined our Panther Family seven years ago and quickly became a valued and respected leader, mentor and huge Panther supporter," Wayne eulogized. "He was a very honest, dependable, and caring individual who always had our students' best interests at heart."

Wayne also stated that in the coming days, the school's Student Services Department would offer counseling to students in need of help coping with the news of Nunamaker's death. A school-wide announcement of his passing will be made on Monday, Jan. 13 at the start of second period, along with a moment of silence to honor Nunamaker's memory.

"Please keep Mr. Nunamaker's wife, family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts during this very difficult time. Our school has lost a great leader; together we will grieve, comfort and overcome our sadness," Wayne said. "Bill will remain a Panther in the hearts of many, and his positive influence and loyalty to our school will forever be woven in the fabric of OHS."
