Oswego Man Brandished Crowbar, Poked Walmart Customer With Flashlight: Cops

A 26-year-old Oswego resident was charged with battery, aggravated assault and criminal trespass after an incident at Walmart on Route 34.

OSWEGO, IL — An Oswego man is accused of brandishing a crowbar and poking a customer with a flashlight Sunday night at Walmart, police said.

Edgar Torrez, 26, is facing charges of battery, aggravated assault and criminal trespass to property after the 10:40 p.m. incident at the store, 2300 Route 34.

During an investigation, officers determined Torrez battered a customer by poking them with a flashlight, brandishing a crowbar and moving aggressively toward them, police spokesperson Cathy Nevara told Patch. Torrez was also reported to have been following an employee while carrying the crowbar, according to police.

Torrez, of the 500 block of Vinca Lane in Oswego, was arrested and charged with battery and aggravated assault and issued a no trespass notice. He was booked at the Oswego Police Department and released, then driven back to Walmart to pick up his car.

Once back at the store, Nevara said Torrez refused to leave the property and was arrested once more and charged with criminal trespass before he was issued a notice to appear in court.
