Oswego Mom Launches App Targeting Newlyweds

Cassie Connelly applies old game of filling a jar with beads for moments of intimacy.

In tough economic times there are very few recession-proof businesses.

The massive industry surrounding weddings, however, would seem to be one of them. Sure, newlyweds and their families probably will spend less on the big day than they might have otherwise, but there are always people getting married.

With that in mind, Oswego resident Cassie Connolly and her cousin Lauren McCabe have launched The Original Bead Game for Newlyweds, targeted at bachelorette parties, bridal showers and the newlywed market.

The game is based on an ancient game of newlyweds adding a bead to a jar every time they are intimate during the first year of marriage, Connolly said. The next year the couple empties the jar the same way.

“Since we were little we always knew we wanted to so something together,” Connolly said of the launching of her company, B-Squared Apps LLC, with her cousin. “We’ve always been very close—like sisters.”

The game is available in as an iPhone and iPad app ($1.99) and as a hard product that can be ordered from the company’s website ($19.95.)

Connolly moved to Oswego five years ago and is a full-time mom while operating the company with McCabe, who lives in Virginia. She previously worked in Internet marketing. She said understands the dangers in staring a new business in today’s economy.

“There is a certain level of risk involved but that’s usually the case in anything worthwhile,” she said.

Connolly said she's put a considerable amount of her own money into the venture and is intent on seeing it work. She and McCabe plan to launch more apps in the future.
