OSWEGO, IL — Oswego is among the top 50 safest communities in Illinois, according to a new study. The village came in as the 48th safest community in the state.

The new study comes from Security Baron, which looked at 2016 and 2017 FBI crime statistics to determine which Illinois communities are the most crime-free. Security Baron tracked statistics like citizen-to-officer ratio, property crime, violent crime and how each of those crime categories have trended in recent years.

Using those measures, Oswego was given a safety score of 84.98. That's not far off from No. 1-ranked Campton Hills, a small community in the Northwest Suburbs that came in with a score of 91.08. (Mount Prospect is last on the list with a safety score of 84.83.)
