Oswego Police Blotter: Dine & Dash, UPS Package Theft, Graffiti

Police reports from Dec. 17 - 22 include a dine 'n' dash, graffiti, battery and a 16-year-old Montgomery driver hitting a pedestrian.

OSWEGO, IL — From an Italian restaurant dine-and-dash to suspected thieves at Meijer, Oswego Police had their hands full leading up to Christmas. The following items were taken from Oswego police department reports and releases. An arrest does not mean the suspect is guilty.


Rebecca E.A. Cooper, 27, of Ingleshire Road in Montgomery, was arrested Dec. 18 at 9:30 a.m. near the corner of Douglas Road and Saugatuck Road. The police report does not give details on her charge or charges, but did say there was not a warrant for arrest.

Someone spray painted a building at the 4100 block of Route 71. The date and time of which it occurred is unknown to police, although the report was made the morning of Dec. 18. An estimated $200 worth of damage was done.

A 16-year-old Montgomery driver struck a 74-year-old pedestrian from Oswego at a crosswalk at the corner of Washington Street and Harrison Street Dec. 18 at 6:40 a.m.

Someone stole a $160 air mattress Dec. 18 from Meijer at the 2700 block of Rt. 34 around 11:49 a.m. Police are investigating.

Celia Castelz, 32, of the 2700 block of Downing Court in Aurora, was arrested on an in-state warrant Dec. 19 at 7:47 p.m. at 4232 Rt. 30 bypass, police said.

Jose Avalos, 26, of the 00 block of Marnel Road in Montgomery, was arrested Dec. 20 at 7:54 p.m. near the corner of Fernwood and Douglas for driving with a suspended license and having a taillight out, police said.

Oswego police took a Dec. 20 accident report that involved a juvenile and a 55-year-old Aurora woman driving SUVs. The report did not specify how the accident happened, but the woman did require transportation to a hospital. The accident took place at 5:41 p.m. near the corner of Route 34 and Kendall Point Drive. More than an estimated $1500 in damage was done, police said.

A retail theft at Meijer was reported two days after it occurred on Dec. 18 around 11:20 p.m. At that time, police say $933 worth of goods were taken. One suspect was described as a white man, age 25 - 30 standing 5 foot 9 to 6 feet tall, weighing 185 - 190 pounds. The other suspect, a white woman looked to be about 24 to 28 years old, standing between 5 foot 2 to 5 foot 4, weighing between 150-165 pounds. They both have brown eyes, brown hair, and medium builds. The man was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black shoes. The woman was wearing a black jacket with a possible floral print, jeans, and high knee boots. Police are investigating the incident.

Jennifer Nadine Chowning, 35, of Florida, was arrested Dec. 21 at 11:00 p.m. and charged with battery. A 51-year-old woman from Yorkville was injured in an incident that occurred at 54 Main Street, police said. 54 Main Street is the Oswego Inn, according to Google Maps.

Police are investigating a Dec. 19 incident where someone stole a UPS package from a front porch at the 100 block of Waterbury Circle. $76 worth of merchandise was taken.

Police say two people left the Tuscan Tavern on Route 71 without paying Dec. 22 around 7:47 p.m., police said. They ate less than $100 worth of food. The investigation is pending.
