Oswego Police Investigate Potential Threat To Oswego East HS

There will be extra police presence at Oswego East High School.

OSWEGO, IL--A potential threat to Oswego East High School has the Oswego Police Department involved in an investigation, according to an Oswego Police Department Facebook post. Through its probe, police find there is no credible threat to the school or students.

There will be extra police presence at Oswego East High School as a precaution only, police said.

Laura Pastirik-Bankowski, principal of Oswego East High School, issued a statement. In it, Pastirik-Bankowski states, "Our staff has been made aware of a list of student names that was created by a student and alleged a possible threat to the safety of other students in the district."

The administration finds the list was created over the weekend and shared through social media.

"We are taking this very seriously and working closely with police as they actively investigate the situation," Pastirik-Bankowski said in a statement. "To keep everyone informed, attempts were made by administration today to personally contact the families of all students on the list."

The administration is working with the police and there is no confirmed or direct threat to any student.

Assistance will available at the school to address the questions or concerns of students and their families.

"We appreciate the students who came forward to report the concerning post to administration at the school," Pastirik-Bankowski said in a statement. "As always, we encourage students to be aware of their surroundings and report anything that does not seem right."

The administration encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact the school office.
