Police Search For Man Shuts Down Oswego Subdivision, Schools

A man who reportedly fled from a domestic dispute caused a police search that shut down major streets, a subdivision and local schools.

OSWEGO, IL — A search for a man who authorities say fled a domestic dispute with a gun Tuesday led police to shut down a major Oswego street, blanket a subdivision and golf course and put local schools on lockdown. The man was not apprehended, but police said they do not believe there is a threat to the community.

Oswego Police responded to a domestic dispute at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Torrington Court. Officers learned that an ex-boyfriend of one of the home's residents had just fled in a red Chevrolet after allegedly threatening to shoot one of the residents, police said in a news release.

The residents did not know if the man was armed, but he was known to possess a gun, according to police.

Officers found the red Chevrolet heading east on Wolf's Crossing Road between Douglas Road North and Douglas Road South, but the man ditched his car on the side of the road and fled into the subdivision on the northwest corner of Wolf's Crossing Road and Douglas Road North, police said.

Police blanketed the area and began searching for the man. A canine unit and a drone was brought in, police said. The search extended to the Fox Bend Golf Course, 3516 US-34. Responding officers came from the Naperville Police Department Canine Unit, Montgomery Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police.

The man was not found, but police said they talked to him over the phone. According to authorities, he said he had been picked up by an acquaintance and left Oswego.

Oswego Police are not identifying the man, saying an investigation is ongoing. Police "do not believe" there is a continuing threat to the community, the department said in a statement.

The search led to the closure of Wolf's Crossing Road between Southbury Boulevard and Douglas Road South for about an hour-and-a-half Tuesday. Plank Junior High and Churchill Elementary were placed on lockdown and delayed dismissal. Plank canceled a volleyball game scheduled for Tuesday night, District 308 said.

A childcare facility was also placed on lockdown, police said.
