Oswego Senior Center Releases Event Schedule For Holiday Season

The Oswego Senior Center is offering a number of different events and series for elderly residents to enjoy this holiday season.

History through Biographies

Wednesdays, 10:15 - 11:30 a.m.
Mike Adolph, a retired History teacher, moderates lively discussion as participants explore history by presenting biographies they’ve chosen from a list of over 200 Americans - such as Teddy Roosevelt, Gary Kildall, Calamity Jane, and Jim Thorpe (or members may suggest others). Join us anytime at the Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington for our interesting exchange.

Open Computer Lab and Classes
Oswego Senior Center located at 156 E. Washington offers Open Computer Lab time from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. on December 5, 12, and 19. Instructors Gary Tollaksen and Bob LeClercq will help you individually with your PC or other electronic devices. Computer classes are offered 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, such as December 10: “How to Start Researching Your Family Tree using Free Software” and December 17: “Installing Free Software to Remove Malware and Spyware.” There will be no lab or classes Christmas and New Year week. Call 630-554-5602 to register for class or set an appointment.

Hearing Screen

Thursday, December 12, 10:30 a.m. - Noon
Always saying “huh” or “what”? Come to Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington St. to get your hearing checked. Connect Hearing will be conducting the screens. Sign up by calling 630-554-5602.

Art with Carolyn

Friday, December 13, 10 a.m.
Have fun with Carolyn as you learn basic painting preparations and techniques with water color and sponge paint at Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington St. Sign-up is required. $12 fee includes all supplies and easy to follow instruction. Payment is required at registration. Call 630-554-5602 to register.

Financial Education Series: “Tax Basics and Planning”

Tuesday, December 10, 10 a.m.
The Oswego Senior Center located at 156 E. Washington St. has developed a collaboration of local financial entities to provide insight and education on financial planning to give you the tools you need to succeed in the financial arena for today and tomorrow. Presenters are David Erickson, Edward Jones and Brian LeClercq, LeClercq Insurance Services. RSVP at 630-554-5602.

Gift Shop Open to the Public

Mondays: 10 a.m. – noon; Thursdays 9 a.m. – noon
Come in and shop the bargains at Oswego Senior Center located at 156 E. Washington St. for gently used and new decorations, gifts, glassware and more. Our prices are amazing. Include us in your holiday shopping. All proceeds benefit programming for our area seniors.

Dementia Support Group

Friday, December 6, 1:30 - 3 p.m.
The group will provide support and guidance from others that may be in a similar situation of caring for a loved one who has dementia. Please join us at Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington St., to discuss anything that may be on your mind, learn ideas for success from others and give ideas that may help others. Understand that you are not alone when caring for someone with dementia. Join us anytime. The dementia support group will be meeting the first Friday of each month.

Jewelry Making Class

Wednesday, December 11, 10 a.m. - noon
Tammy Smith, of Stoned Gifts & Lapidary, will be presenting a hands-on bracelet making class at the Oswego senior Center, 156 E. Washington St. Just in time for holiday gifting to yourself or someone else. You will be creating the unique “I’m Moody” bracelet. The cost includes all the gorgeous, polished stones and other materials – your beautiful bracelet will be ready to take home the day of the class. OSWEGO SENIOR CENTER CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAM

The Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington, offers congregate lunch to seniors (age 60 plus) Monday and Thursday each week at noon. Reservations are required by 10 a.m. the business day prior to lunch. Suggested $5 donation. Please call for reservations: 630-554-5602.
