Rash Of Car Crimes Hit Oswego Neighborhood

Seven car crimes, including one stolen car, were reported in an Oswego neighborhood Wednesday.

OSWEGO, IL — Seven car crimes — including a stolen car — hit a cluster of neighborhood blocks in Oswego Wednesday, according to Oswego Police. Five crimes were reported on one Truman Drive block, with the others being reported nearby.

The incidents appear to have happened throughout the day Wednesday, with three of them allegedly taking place at about 7:30 a.m., two others happening at unknown times Wednesday and two happening at unknown dates and times, Oswego Police said in multiple incident reports. The most serious of the crimes, a stolen car, took place at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Truman Drive, the block that was hit four times, police said.

In that case, a person or multiple persons entered a 2011 Kia Sorento SUV in the Truman block and drove off with it, police said. In all seven cases, parked cars were entered and searched for items to steal.

Two of the cases involve cars that were entered, but no items were stolen. There were five cases of theft, including the stolen car, police said. Some of the cars were left unlocked before they were entered.

  • Unknown date and time (reported Wednesday morning) in the 400 block of Reagan Drive, a car was entered and sunglasses valued at $100 were stolen
  • Unknown date and time (reported Wednesday afternoon) in the 100 block of Eisenhower, a car was entered and a wallet was stolen

Victims range from a 35-year-old woman to a 69-year-old man, according to police. An Oswego Police Department spokesperson said the department could not speculate on if the incidents are related, and that an investigation is ongoing.
