'Rick Left A Lasting Impression': Retired Kendall County Correctional Sergeant Dies At 62

Rick Flowers, who retired in 2016, was an avid sports fan, passionate about mowing the lawn, and a "fierce and loyal friend."

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — A retired correctional sergeant from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office died Aug. 25 from brain cancer. He was 62.

Rick Flowers was "an amazing person with so many gifts and talents and you had so much love in your heart for those you held dear," his wife, Wendy, wrote in a loving letter, serving as his obituary, that details his life and passions.

Rick began his career at the Kendall County Sheriff's Office in March 1994, working as a correctional deputy. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1999 and continued to serve in his role until his retirement on Jan. 3, 2016.

Following his retirement, Rick kept himself "busy with your odd jobs," Wendy wrote.

"You enjoyed your hunting and fishing along with being an avid sports fan," the obituary reads. "Mowing was your passion, much to my contention as I was not allowed to touch a lawn mower. Yes, I will always remember the pot holes I put in our yard. You were a fierce and loyal friend and we ended up having an amazing group of friends. You loved socializing with people, so your part time bartending job was right up your lane. I think you spent more time talking than pouring drinks."
