School Board Vice President Lauri Doyle Running For Reelection

"Making budget cuts...without a comprehensive plan for the future is not in the best interests of our children or community," Doyle said.

OSWEGO, IL — School Board vice president Lauri Doyle is officially running for reelection, according to a news release posted Tuesday to her WordPress blog. The 43-year-old part-time accounting assistant co-chairs the board's finance and operations and facilities and planning advisory committees and says getting the district's finances in order with a new strategic plan will be her top priority if reelected.

The district is currently staring down a fiscal cliff and announced last year that it would need to cut about $3.5 million from its upcoming budget. It is currently soliciting feedback from parents, students, staff and community members on the proposed cuts.

But Doyle said she believes there are ways to get the district's budget back in the black without cutting services and programs that directly impact students. She has proposed streamlining administrative processes, taking advantage of state financial support programs and working with local governments mitigate utility and service costs.

"Making budget cuts and creating piecemeal programs without a comprehensive plan for the future is not in the best interests of our children or our community," Doyle said in her news release.

Doyle said she believes that growing the community's commercial and industrial tax base will relieve the tax burden on homeowners, but that growth in the community only happens through strong schools.

"Communities need successful schools to grow capable citizens, and all governing bodies in the school district boundaries need to work together to achieve these goals," she said.

Doyle has lived in Oswego for 15 years, according to her news release, and holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's in accountancy. Her daughter has attended East View Kindergarten Center, Long Beach Elementary School and Plank Junior High School, while Doyle has served as an officer for several school groups and community organizations, including the Parent Communication Council, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois and the Oswego chapter of Kiwanis International.
