Thrown Rocks Cost Oswego Senior Center Building $2,500 In Damages
Unknown individuals threw rocks at the senior center, breaking enough windows to cost the center thousands of dollars.
OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police reported Tuesday that the building which houses the Oswego Senior Center had some of its second-floor windows smashed in with rocks over the weekend. The incident took place some time over the weekend, and was not discovered until days later when one elderly client of the center was exercising.
"One of our seniors goes up and down the stairs to cool down after an exercise class," a Senior Center manager said. "And she saw there was a bunch of glass."
The total damage to the facility is estimated to be about $2,500, and police currently do not know who is responsible. Despite the broken glass, no injuries were reported by the center or police. In fact, it's debatable whether the 'Oswego Senior Center' was damaged at all.

The building in which the center operates, at 156 E Washington St, is actually owned by the Oswego School District.
"The windows were broken on the second floor and we only rent area on the first floor," the manager said.

Oswego School District Director of Communications, Theresa Komitas, said the district would pick up the $2,500 tab, and repair the windows. To prevent future vandalism, the windows may eventually be covered up.
"The location where the windows were damaged is not visible to the public, so we may look at alternatives - like boarding them up or doing something else - to prevent vandalism," Komitas said.
