Car Crashes Through Baumann's Bakery Window

No injuries were reported after an elderly woman drove through the front window of Baumann's Bakery on Harlem Avenue Friday morning.

There were no injuries reported after a car crashed through the front window of in Palos Heights Friday morning. 

Around 10 a.m. a car driven by an elderly woman crashed through the large window of the bakery at 12248 S. Harlem Avenue shattering glass and causing the walls of the bakery to shake. 

Owner Cathy Baumann said shattered glass hit the back wall of the bakery and a wall shook when the car came crashing in.

"This has never happened here before," Baumann said. "The important thing is that no one got hurt. We can take care of everything else." 

The woman was pulling into the space when her car accelerated through her parking space and across the sidewalk in front of the store, Baumann said.

"The bakery is a drive-thru for the day," Baumann joked about an hour after the incident. 

The bakery is next door to the re Station and emergency crews responded immediately, Baumann said. 

All the baked goods displayed in the store were lost and many display cases and shelves were destroyed. Sample cakes sat upside down in their display cases. 

Baumann plans to follow through with orders for cakes, many of which are for graduations that were ordered for tomorrow.

"I just feel that we owe it to our customers to find a way to honor those," Baumann said. 

Showing some neighborly kindness,  offered  as Baumann's pick-up spot for tomorrow's orders. 

Baumann's Bakery has been located in Palos Heights for 28 years.
