Position Function
Under the general direction of the Supt. of Public Works and daily guidance of the Water and Sewer Clerk, this position will perform various customer service duties related to water billing. Public Works customer service is responsible for installation and maintenance of water meters, along with responding to customer inquiries about all water and sewer related issues.

Duty

Perform monthly or as needed electronic radio meter readings.

Install, maintain, and troubleshoot water meter equipment.

Assists water clerk with monthly billing, posting various notices, and water service turn on/turn off.

Performs utility locations of all City utilities as part of Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE).

Perform sellers permit inspections.

Follow applicable safety procedures.

Assist Public Works department personnel as needed.

Qualifications

Experience in dealing with the public in a customer service capacity, and experience working in a construction or mechanical repair activity.

Understanding of Public Works concepts including but not limited to: snow removal, water/sewer system repair and maintenance, water distribution system operations and maintenance, and utility location.

Ability to read and write English.

Ability to operate and accept instruction in the operation of meter reading equipment, various hand tools, power tools and equipment.

Ability to perform hard physical labor, lifting tools and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Ability to get along with co-workers and the general public.

Class B Commercial Drivers License (Or acquire within three months of hire date)

Schedule
This is a full-time position. Overtime will be required, as well as availability for emergency work and inclusion on a weekly call out schedule. Method used for
determination of overtime compensation is identified in the salary ordinance.

Compensation
Current pay rate is contingent upon qualifications, along with an excellent benefit package including paid vacation, sick/personal time, and enrollment in IMRF pension.
