The selected restaurants for our second “Chowdown Showdown” all made great sandwichesWe sampled each and selected a winner.

- Oak Lawn

Palos Patch - Grassano's sandwich had the most green pepper flavor of the three we sampled. The bread was soft and complimented the texture of the eggs nicely. I like the extra kick the peppers provided. It made for a great sandwich. 4.5 Stars

Evergreen Park Patch - This sandwich was my favorite! The flavorful seasoning was a wonderful touch on the soft eggs. Grassano's sandwich was number one for me because it had a lot of peppers which gave it quite a kick. 5 Stars

Oak Lawn Patch - What a food burst sensation. My personal preference is for veggies to retain their crunchiness; the peps were a little mushy to my liking. The bread had a hint of garlic and generous amount of eggs. The black pepper used to flavor the sandwich was a little overwhelming but still a great sandwich. 4.5 Stars

- Palos Heights

Evergreen Park Patch - The best part of this sandwich was the milky, buttery eggs. They were perfectly complemented with enough seasoning and crisp, not soggy peppers. A nice spin on the classic pepper and egg sandwich. 4.5 Stars

Oak Lawn Patch - This was my favorite of the three. The peppers were al dente—crunchy and not soggy. The eggs were fluffy and plentiful. Nice spicing coupled with a french roll made me feel like I was walking down the streets of Rome eating a pepper-and-eggs sandwich. 5 Stars.

Palos Patch - We got some great recommendations from around Palos. and both received nominations and I am sure we will stop by each of them for future showdowns. Al's was all about the seasoning. This was probably the most flavorful sandwich of today's trio. The peppers also had a great texture. 5 Stars

- Evergreen Park

Oak Lawn Patch - I loved how the eggs were folded omelet style. It was a beautiful presentation. Overall I found the sandwich kind of bland. I suggest more spicing. I thought the sandwich needed hot sauce. 4 Stars

Palos Patch - The texture of the eggs in this sandwich was different than the other two. There was more of folded omelet-like egg component. They were a little lighter on the peppers as well. I liked the bread, and for those who prefer more focus on the eggs, this might be your best bet. 4 Stars

Evergreen Park Patch - We didn't get too many suggestions this week, but Wojo's came over pretty strong from a reader who's usually all about This sammy was definitely the best in presentation. It was your perfect classic. The very lightly seasoned eggs resembled an omelette more than scrambled eggs like the others. This sandwich was very neatly packed, and the bread was soft. 4 Stars.

And the Winner Is . . . in Palos Heights. This was a tight battle as all three served up great sandwiches. In the end the flavor and seasonings put this one over the top. The egg to pepper ratio was right on point. With the Lenten season comes a need to creatively rethink your Friday dining options, and a pepper and egg sandwich is always a great choice.
