Fraudulent Check Cashing, Smishing Scam Reported In Palos Hills
Palos Hills police are investigating deceptive practices involving fraudulent checking and a smishing scam.

PALOS HILLS, IL — More deceptive practices involving online shenanigans were reported in Palos Hills, according to police reports.
Palos Hills officers went to the 11100 block of Southwest Highway for deceptive practices report, The business said someone cashed two fraudulent checks totaling $1,400 from their business account. Police said the checks were paid to the order of “Adolso Lopez-Marcos.”
A resident in the 9000 block of Del Prado Drive was trying to pay their Target credit card bill when a fraud alert message appeared along with a phone number to call. When the resident called the number, the purported fraudster told the office to send $350 in gift cards to clear the fraud.

Police said after the resident sent the gift cards, the fraudster requested more money. The resident realized then it was a scam.
