PALOS HILLS, IL — A man fatally stabbed over the weekend at a bar in Boston has been identified as 23-year-old Daniel Martinez of Palos Hills, according to multiple reports.

Police said Martinez was stabbed near Paddy O's bar around 7 p.m. Saturday. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Boston police identified his attacker as Alvaro Larrama, 38, of East Boston. Officials said Larrama, a bouncer at nearby bar Sons of Boston, ran away after the stabbing, but turned himself in to police on Monday.

Larrama was ordered held without bail on a murder charge.

Prosecutors said surveillance video from outside the bar showed Larrama talking to Martinez, who was reportedly denied entry, then pursuing Martinez as he and a friend walked away, WHDH Boston reported. Video shows Martinez raising his hand as if to defend himself, then hitting Larrama's head with an aluminum beer bottle before Larrama strikes him in the chest, according to WHDH.

The video reportedly shows Larrama with an object in his right hand as he runs after Martinez. Officials said Larrama was then seen entering Sons of Boston, where he washed his hands, discarded his sweatshirt and turned his shirt inside out before leaving, according to WHDH.

Apolonia Martinez, the mother of Daniel Martinez, spoke to NBC Boston, telling the outlet, "I feel the most intense pain I have ever felt in my life.

"He didn't have a malicious bone in his body, he was a trained Marine, he knew how to do his job, but he had compassion and love beyond measure," she said.

While some outlets described Martinez as an active-duty Marine, NBC Boston reported he served from September 2017 to September 2021.
