Palos-Orland League Of Women Voters Plan September Registration Events

The LWV-Palos-Orland celebrates National Voter Registration Day by holding registration events at Moraine Valley, Lemont and Orland Park.

PALOS-ORLAND, IL — In celebration of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Palos-Orland League of Women Voters will hold voter registration events across the south suburbs.

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan day of action observed across the country to highlight the importance of voter registration in an effort to unite Americans across ideological differences.

Voter regisration is now open for the upcoming Presidential Election, Tuesday, Nov. 5.

LWV-Palos-Orland members will register voters at these times and locations:

Moraine Valley Community College

The last day for regular (paper) voter registration is Oct. 8.

Online voter registration available through the Illinois State Board of Elections will close at 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 20 and will reopen Nov. 7. Registrants will be asked to provide their Illinois drivers license and/or state ID number, the date it was issued, and the last four digits of their social security number.

Current voters can also use the site to update their address or name change, check to make sure their voter registration is up to date.

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, 16-year-olds can now pre-register to vote in Illinois on the state election board's website. Their applications will be held in abeyance until their 18th birthday, when their names will be added to the voter polls.

Also, seventeen-year-olds who will turn 18 on or before Nov. 5 can register to vote in the Presidential Election.

In-person voter registration continues through election day, Nov. 5 for current voters updating their registration and first-time voters.

The last day for the local election authority – Cook County Clerk and Chicago Board of Elections – can accept vote-by-mail ballot applications is Oct. 31.

Limited early voting begins Oct. 9 at all five suburban Cook County courthouses (Bridgeview, Markham, Maybrook, Skokie, Rolling Meadows) and downtown Chicago, 69 W. Washington St.

Early voting in most townships and towns in suburban Cook County will begin Oct. 21 and continue through the last day of early voting on Nov. 4.
