Palos Park police are teaming up with Project ChildSafe to offer free gunlocks to residents while supplies last.
PALOS PARK, IL — Palos Park police have partnered with Project ChildSafe to offer free gun locks to residents. The locks are available while supplies last at the Palos Park police station, 8999 W. 123rd St.
Securing a firearm with the use of a gun lock is the simplest thing gun owners can do to ensure the safety of all within their household. Safe firearm storage is the best way to prevent accidents, misuse and theft. Palos Park police are providing the gun locks at no extra charge.
The free barrel locks fit almost every pistol and will also feed through the breech of about any rifle or shotgun.

According to a June 2024 study published by the Center for Disease Control, half of the U.S. homes have a firearm in the house. Among those that reported having a loaded firearm in the home (around 43.8 percent) and a child aged 17 and under in the home, up to 41.1 percent of these households reported that that firearm was kept unlocked.
