Palos Park Police Offer Free Vacation Checks On Homes For Residents

Palos Park residents can make an online request for a vacation watch for police to watch their house and other village services.

PALOS PARK, IL — If you’re going away for the holidays, or planning to spend the winter in warmer climes, Palos Park residents can set up a vacation watch on their home by visiting Frontline Public Safety Solutions and request a vacation house watch.

Palos Park police officers will keep an eye on your home if you’re going on vacation and left the police department know that you’ll be away. Officers, during their shifts, will visit your home to make sure everything looks secure. If anything seems amiss, officers will call you. Police can also help residents make their homes appear as if someone is home.

Visit Frontline Public Safety Solutions and provide the Palos Park Police Department with the details of your property and the dates you will be gone. Once added to the Palos Park police database, your property will receive an extra watch while you are away. If you enter an email address in your request, you may get an email notification from the officer that checks your residence (time permitting).

“We want to advertise this service and let people know about it,” Commissioner Dan Polk said. “We’d like to see more Palos Park residents take advantage of it.”

Burglars look for homes that don't show any movement. Sometimes they'll knock on the door to see if anyone comes to answer. With an increased police presence in the neighborhood, Palos Park police hope it will serve as a deterrent.

Here are a few more tips to protect your home while you’re away:

  • Do not leave a key under the mat.
  • Purchase motion sensor lights.
  • Invest in a 2-way doorbell system with a camera.
  • Do not post on social media that you are leaving town. It's a good indication for a burglar to potentially come to your house and take something.
