Photo Gallery: Honoring The Fallen on Memorial Day

Palos Heights held a Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.

Palos Heights residents paid tribute to those who gave their lives while serving in the military at a Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.

The program featured the Orland-Palos VFW post, a brass quintet, veterans and poet Ann Carlson.

Accompanied by acoustic guitarists playing John Lennon's "Imagine," Carlson called for peace.

"We must learn to stay stop, because life is too precious to waste," she recited.

World War II veteran Thomas Jordanian was the guest speaker. Jordanian was taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge.

"After coming home it took a long, long time for me to make peace about why I was here and they were not," Jordanian said, remembering his fallen comrades.
