PHOTO GALLERY: More From the Classic Car Event
A look back at last week's Palos Heights Classic Car Event.
Last Thursday, Harlem Avenue was filled with classic cars and eager spectators as the 8th Annual Palos Heights Classic Car Event made it a humid summer night to remember.
The event has grown at a rapid pace in recent years, and is now the city's largest attraction for out-of-town visitors.
"It's great exposure for the shops," said Palos Heights Mayor Bob Straz. "People might notice a store and come back another time to shop."

Thousands of visitors, many from outside of Palos Heights, braved the triple digit temperatures and enjoyed the attractions. Besides the cars, the event featured local food vendors, live music and hot air balloon rides.
David Reddy, 13, of Palos Heights, was especially interested in seeing his favorite cars - Corvettes - up close. He took advantage of this year's new feature, hot air balloon rides.

"It was really fun," Reddy said. "I was able to look down on everything that was happening."
The night's main attraction is the Classic Car Raffle. This year's grand prize winner was Doug Johnson of Palos Hills. Watch the video to the left to see Johnson's name being drawn as the winner a Corvette Stingray.
