With a Click, Win a New Kitchen For the Palos Fire District

The Palos Fire Protection District is in the running for a free kitchen renovation and they need your support to win.

The kitchen faucet in Palos Fire Protection District's Station One never stops dripping. Firefighters have to shut off the water when they are not using it.

The cabinets below the sink are rotting away, covered in a mushy black slime. The pots and pans are old and scorched and the tile ends in an ugly strip. We could fix it all, with just the click of a button.

As I have been mentioning on this site for the past several weeks, the district one of five finalists competing for a $25,000 kitchen makeover from IKEA. The contest is sponsored by The Family Handyman magazine.

The district's administrative assistant, Marianne DeHaan, wrote a very clever essay to help win a spot in the finals.

Firefighters say they have received support from family and friends all over the country. In addition, other fire departments from across the Midwest are pitching in and drumming up votes.

It's no secret that the district is facing financial hardships and Captain Mike Graben says without this contest, a kitchen renovation would not be a possibllity.

Give the guys your support and vote, often.

Voting ends Feb. 28. Take a look at the videos to the right to see the Palos Fire kitchen up close.
