Worth Man Dies Of Injuries In Hit-And-Run Crash, 1 In Custody

Witnesses followed and identified the vehicle to police, which did not stop after hitting the 46-year-old man, Worth police said.

WORTH, IL — A 46-year-old man has died from his injuries resulting in a hit-and-run crash early Monday evening in Worth. The driver is in custody, police said.

Around 6:20 p.m., Worth police responded to a hit-and-run car vs. pedestrian crash near the 6600 block of 115th Street. The man was apparently struck crossing 115th Street when police said he was hit by a dark-colored sedan that did not stop.

Witnesses on the scene followed the vehicle and identified it to police. The motorist, a 27-year-old Worth resident, was taken into custody moments after the crash, police said.

Officers found the vehicle, which they said showed damage indicative of a traffic crash.

The gravely injured pedestrian was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Douglas Richer, 46, of Worth.

The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is assisting Worth police in their investigation. Charges are pending.
