1 Killed As Metra Train Hits Vehicle In Norwood Park: Reports

Train traffic was halted for a few hours after the crash, the reports said.

NORWOOD PARK, IL — One person was killed when the vehicle they were driving was hit by a Metra train Saturday afternoon, according to reports.

The person had not been identified by authorities as of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, about six hours after the crash happened.

The crash happened near North Nagle Avenue and North Northwest Highway in Norwood Park just before 4:20 p.m.

The train, Union Pacific Northwest train No. 717 was headed to Harvard at the time, Metra said in a post on X. The crash shut down the tracks in both directions for several hours, according to Metra UPNW.

Surveillance video showed vehicles stopped as the crossing arms came down across the tracks, WGN9 reported. The video also captured a car approaching the tracks, and the Metra train appearing seconds later, the report said.

Passengers told WGN the conductors came through to make sure passengers were unhurt and told the passengers that a car had been hit and was wrapped around the front of the train.
