City Council Overrides Mayor Schmidt's Vetoes

The Park Ridge council voted 6-1 against the Mayor's vetoes against a public works union contract and police department renovation money, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Park Ridge City Council vetoed Mayor David Schmidt’s vetoes Monday of a three-year contract with Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers and money approved for a police station renovation, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Schmidt has consistently been against the police station project, saying, β€œThere is nothing in Phase II of the project that can be reasonably labeled as a β€˜need’,” the newspaper reports. Schmidt vetoed the Local 150 contract because it was not β€œexpense-neutral.”
