Last Escaped IL Inmate Caught After Trying To Hitch Ride: Cops

CUBA, IL — Zachary Hart, an inmate who had been at large for days after escaping Fulton County Jail Wednesday night, was taken into custody Sunday after trying to hitch a ride near the city of Cuba, according to an update from the Fulton County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.

Hart, 36, had escaped Fulton County Jail late Wednesday, along with Eugene Roets, 22, Cody Villalobos, 26, and Jesse Davis, 34, according to police. Roets, Villalobos and Davis were each taken into custody Thursday evening.

A $1 million warrant for Hart's arrest was issued Thursday. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office was joined by Illinois State Police and U.S. Marshals in trying to track down Hart outside Cuba Saturday night after he asked a resident for a ride just after 8:30 p.m., police say. Hart had last been seen heading south on Cameron Road on foot.

The resident declined to give Hart a ride, according to police, but snapped a photo before driving away.

As of Monday morning, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office did not have additional details about Hart's arrest.
