City of Peoria issues sewage warning after rainfall causes overflow into Illinois River (peoriastandard.com) — Peoria officials are warning residents to avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River downstream from Detweiller Marina after a recent rainfall caused a combined sewer overflow. City leaders say ongoing infrastructure projects, required under federal regulations, aim to reduce these sewage discharges during wet weather, but residents should still take precautions now to avoid getting sick.
   

2. City of Peoria Historic Preservation Commission met December 17 (peoriastandard.com) — Peoria’s Historic Preservation Commission recently reviewed several neighborhood projects, including repairs to a multifamily building on North Sheridan, rooftop solar panels on North Garfield, and a new memorial and accessibility upgrades at Springdale Cemetery. These cases could affect nearby property appearance, historic character, and how residents and visitors experience one of Peoria’s most notable cemeteries.
   

3. Jailed 6 months, Peoria woman pleads for pretrial release in friend's shooting death (25newsnow.com) — A 20-year-old Peoria woman charged in the June shooting death of a Pekin teenager near Peoria’s Riverfront is asking to be released from jail before trial. Her attorney argues the gun fired accidentally and wants house arrest with monitoring, ahead of a Jan. 22 hearing before a Peoria County judge.
   

4. River City Construction Foundation presents check to Woodruff Career & Technical Center (centralillinoisproud.com) — Woodruff Career & Technical Center in Peoria just received a $6,502.50 donation from the River City Construction Foundation to replace or upgrade equipment for its skilled trades programs. The gift is part of more than $50,000 raised for 17 area schools, helping expand hands-on learning and safety-focused tools like a new Saw Stop table saw.
   

5. Peoria dispensary manager sees Trump order as boost to cannabis research, ease stigma, (25newsnow.com) — A Peoria cannabis dispensary manager says President Trump’s move to reclassify marijuana could finally open the door to serious medical research and reduce stigma for local patients. While Illinois laws stay the same for now, he believes better data could help Peorians understand cannabis’ benefits and risks beyond stereotypes, even as federal banking and interstate issues remain unresolved.
