1 Hospitalized, House Remains Habitable After Fire: Plainfield FD

The fire started accidentally in an enclosed sitting room at the back of a Plainfield house's garage, fire officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns after a fire broke out Saturday morning at their house in the 15200 block of South Poppy Lane, Plainfield Fire Protection District officials said.

Fire crews were dispatched at 5:56 a.m. to a two-story, single-family house where a small fire started in an enclosed sitting room at the back of the garage, according to a news release. Paramedics were directed to the backyard to treat the resident who was then transported in stable condition to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

The house remains habitable but suffered about $ 15,000 worth in damages, investigators determined. The cause of the fire was accidental, but officials did not say how it started.

Officials said in the release that smoke alarms were installed and functioning at the house but reminded locals to regularly test their smoke alarms and ensure all residents have and practice a fire escape plan.
