16-Mile Ride With The Mayor Returns Plainfield Fest Weekend

Cyclists will take off from Village Green Park, ride 8 miles to Shorewood and stop for a drink at a local bar before returning.

PLAINFIELD, IL — This weekend is a busy one in Plainfield. Not only is Plainfield Fest returning after a hiatus, but Mayor John Argoudelis will also lead a group of cyclists for a relaxing ride down to Shorewood and back.

Ride with the Mayor will take place Sunday — to "have some fun in the summertime with the residents who want to take a casual bike ride," Argoudelis told Patch.

The ride will begin at noon at Village Green Park, 24121 Chicago St., travel 8 miles to Shorewood, where cyclists will stop for a beverage at Mauve Nosh & Libations before getting back on their bikes and riding the 8 miles back to Village Green Park.

Since the ride stops at a bar, only those 21 and older are able to participate, according to Eventbrite.

The event isn't only for cyclists to get together. It also raises money for a different charity each year, and this summer's recipient is AllenForce. Tickets for the ride are free, but donations are encouraged and will benefit the Plainfield organization that assists injured veterans with health and fitness training and social activities.

Tickets for Ride with the Mayor can be reserved on Eventbrite. The deadline to receive a t-shirt has ended.

Cyclists are asked to arrive at Village Green Park at least 15 minutes before the ride begins.
