YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville police have not yet been able to locate the two teenage girls who were reported missing and endangered Dec. 14, officials said Monday.

About two weeks after they were last seen late Dec. 13 in Yorkville, Destinee N. Britton, 14, and 17-year-old Mia Pettis remain listed as missing, Deputy Chief Garrett Carlyle told Patch.

"Their social media last showed they were in Chicago under their own choosing," Carlyle wrote in an email.

Each of the girls has "a condition that places her in danger," according to two Silver Search Illinois alerts shared earlier in December on Facebook at the request of Yorkville police. Illinois State Police reportedly activated endangered missing person advisories for the girls.

Yorkville officers have since worked with the Chicago Police Department to attempt to locate the girls at several possible addresses in the city but have not succeeded, according to Carlyle.

Carlyle said the department has been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which offered to assist in the case "should we be able to produce any further leads to their possible location."

Britton and Pettis were both last seen at 11:09 p.m. Dec. 13 at the corner of Bridge and Park streets in Yorkville, Patch reported. They were spotted walking east toward Route 47 after leaving a group home with "multiple duffel bags" and later posted on social media that they were in Chicago, Patch reported.

Police said both girls have run away in the past and have been known to make their way to the Chicago area.

Britton is 5-foot-1, weighs about 150 pounds and has brown hair. Pettis is 5-foot-3, weighs about 200 pounds and has black hair, according to police.

Anyone with information about the girls' whereabouts is asked to contact the Yorkville Police Department at 630-553-4340.
