2 Juveniles Hold Home Intruder At Bay With Gun: Plainfield PD

The Chicago man, 37, also dropped a bag filled with cocaine while trying to break into the house, Plainfield police said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Chicago man broke into an ex's residence in Plainfield on June 9 and got held at gunpoint by two juvenile victims until police arrived, officials told Patch.

Plainfield police were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. that Sunday to a property on Arbor Drive after a caller reported an ex-boyfriend broke into the house by breaking a fence panel in the yard, Sergeant Luke Osteko said.

Police found Juan Hernandez, 37, in a bedroom and detained him.

The two victims told officers Hernandez broke into the house while they were inside, prompting them to barricade themselves in a bedroom. The man followed them and eventually kicked down the door. In response, one of the juveniles armed themselves with a firearm and held the Chicago man at gunpoint until officers arrived, according to Ostreko.

Asked for the victims' ages, police said they could not say out of protection for them and their families.

Detectives also discovered that while trying to break into the front of the house, Hernandez dropped a bag filled with a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine, the sergeant said.

Hernandez is facing felony charges of residential burglary, criminal damage to property and possession of a controlled substance. He remains in custody at the Will County jail as of Friday.
