Plainfield Township Shooting Injures 2 Teens

The house that the teens occupied was shot at on two consecutive days, police said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Two Plainfield Township teens were injured in a shooting that took place a day after their house was under another gun attack, according to the police.

On Monday evening around 8:34 p.m., Will County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 22000 block of West Taylor Road, Will County Sheriff's spokesperson Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

When the deputies arrived, they discovered an 18-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the right shin and another on his inner left thigh, and a 17-year-old who was injured by a bullet that grazed his buttocks, Hoffmeyer said.

"Both teens stated that they were in the kitchen at the time of the shooting and approximately 16 shots were fired at the front of the house," she said.

The two teens were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers discovered multiple bullet holes on the outside of the house and numerous bullet casings in front of the home, Hoffmeyer said. Deputies spoke with family members of the victims and learned the shooting may have occurred because of a disrespectful message one of the victims posted on Snapchat, she said.

The two other residents of the house were not injured, and they said they were packing up their belongings because the home had been shot at the night before.

On Sunday evening, deputies were at the same residence in response to shots fired and saw a glass screen door was shattered, Hoffmeyer said. The homeowner, who is the mother of the 18-year-old, said she was in the basement and heard about 10 shots. When she went upstairs, she saw broken glass from the screen door, she said.

Deputies obtained video footage that showed a red vehicle pull up in front of the residence. A man exited the vehicle, walked up to the home, and fired multiple shots. When deputies began questioning the two regarding who the possible suspects could be, they became uncooperative, Hoffmeyer said.

The case is still under investigation.
