9 People Escape Fire That Destroyed Garage, 3 Vehicles
Plainfield fire officials believe the blaze started in the garage.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield fire officials said nine people — all adults — escaped without injury from a house fire Tuesday night on Douglas Drive. Fire Chief Jon Stratton said firefighters responded to the fire in the 24000 block of Douglas near Route 59 around 8:30 p.m.
A three-car garage was fully involved and the fire had spread to the attached two-story home, Stratton said. All three vehicles inside the garage were destroyed, and Stratton estimated the smoke and structural damage to the home at around $150,000.
Stratton said the cause of the fire remains under investigation but it is believed to have started in the garage.
